This is a quick hack to show how to revive old leather boots. My Timberland boots were looking a little washed out and worse for wear. After looking on the internet and a visit to my local Timpson's (Cobbler chain) I found a really good way to bring my boots back to nearly new (in my opinion anyway!).
This is what my boots looked like at the start.....
Step 1 - Materials
- Cloth (my preference was a non-branded microfibre, however the traditional yellow duster or soft cloth is fine)
- Cherry Blossom Mid Brown Renovating Shoe Polish £4.25, however this is a lot cheaper online. Please get the colour that is closest to your boots.
- Timpson's Cobbler's Cream £5.25
- Soft Bristle Brush. £1.00. I used an Ikea dish brush
- Squirt of Washing Up Liquid.
Step 2 - Clean the Boots/Shoes
- Remove laces from the boots/shoes
- Clean the leather with some warm water and a squirt of washing up liquid concentrating on heavy stains.
- Rinse with cold water
- Pat dry the leather with either the cloth or kitchen roll
- Leave tor dry completely
Step 3 - Apply the shoe polish
- Using the cloth apply the shoe polish liberally over the entire shoe boot using a circular motion
- Take care if there are other materials on the shoe/boot. Don't get the polish on this as it will stain. If needed use masking tape.
- Remember to cover the tongue of the shoe/boot.
- Repeat the process with the other shoe/boot.
- Buff the leather to remove any excess and to a shine.
- You can leave the boot at this point, however I wanted a deeper colour and shine.
Step 4 - Protect, Nourish and Polish
- With your cloth, liberally apply the Cobbler Cream to both boots working into the leather.
- Leave to dry for around 30 mins
- Buff to a nice shine.
- Replace your laces!
- Your boots/shoes should now be looking nearly new!
